"Dancing to Unheard Music"

I had a bit of an epiphany the other day.
I was thinking about how much the element of dance and rhythm enters into my work.
Then I came across a sentence in one of the "Dune" series of books by Frank Herbert.
I have decided to adopt "Dancing to Uneard Music" as my motto.
It sums up the way I work with abstraction.
Imagine if you will........someone has invented a new dance and has been asked to demonstrate it in front of a panel of expert judges.
At the very moment the dancers start, the sound system fails.
They carry on .....with the sound of the music in their heads.
THEY know what they are doing...
but the judges are only able to judge the dance as a DANCE in its purest form, not as an adjunct, or a response to the music.
This could have many ways of influencing the perception of the new dance.
I see a direct parallel in painting abstract pieces of art.
The judges have to TRUST that the artist has integrity and then they judge the result for itself.
